Best Brunch Restaurants In NYC – Maya

We stayed in New York City for three days in December. It was my very first time visiting The City and I thoroughly intended on making it a party all day, every single day. All the more so that we were in town to celebrate my birthday.

To prepare our trip and make sure we wouldn’t waste any time on the spot, I browsed the web to find cool restaurants for breakfast and dinner. That’s how I found the Maya, that had incredibly great reviews, with people raving about their bottomless brunch. I decided to give it a try and boy was it an unforgettable experience!

Nestled in the Upper East Side, Maya offers a unique bottomless brunch formula that will delight your taste buds and put you in a festive mood all day. The concept is quite simple: at the cost of $49, you have two hours to enjoy as many delicious cocktails as you want and unlimited small plates of succulent Mexican food to share with your partner(s) in crime. All in a gorgeous space; with Latin, Pop and American music playing in the background.

As we settled in front of the glass window on a snowy day of December, we took in the lively atmosphere of the restaurant that had me smiling from ear to ear and ordered two lattes and two mimosas to kickstart the experience.

Strawberry and Mango Mimosas, made with Champagne and real fruit purée.

We then proceeded with the food. The concept of sharing small plates at Maya, brought back fond memories of the time I lived in Barcelona and ate tapas with my friends almost everyday. There is nothing more festive and pleasant in my opinion, then sharing tapas in a lively atmosphere with your loved ones. And that’s exactly what I took away from my experience at Maya. Not only was the food and the drinks to die for, but the service was impeccable, the restaurant looked gorgeous and there was a joyful ambiance that made me want to go back the next time we visit New York.

Take a look at the pictures we took from all the mouth-watering food we ate.

Maya Benedict – Masa Sope, Pork Carnitas, Poached Eggs, Avocado, Poblano Cream Sauce

Squash Blossom Quesadilla – Corn Masa, Squash Blossom Poblano Chiles, Toasted Corn, Three Salsas – This was one of my favorite plates. I could have had 10 of these.

Chicken Pibil Style Tacos – Another favorite!

Maya Margarita

After asking our amazing waitress which were her favorite drinks on the menu, she listed the Maya Margarita amongst other cocktails, so I ordered it. Made with tequila blanco, tamarind, fresh lime, and chili piquin rim, the Maya Margarita is hands down the best drink I’ve ever had in my existence. Words can’t even begin to describe how heavenly this cocktail is, for anyone who, like me, lives for all things sour and spicy. I savored every sip until the last drop, pausing each time to tell my husband how exquisite it tasted.

Chilaquiles Divorciados

Poblano Chile Breakfast Potatoes

Chicken Tamal – yet another favorite!

I also tried their new drink, called Agua Fresca, made with hibiscus flowers and tequila blanco, which I absolutely loved because it was a little sour too (and I’m a fan of all hibiscus drinks). The restaurant’s cocktails are made with fresh fruits, which makes a huge difference in the taste.

Huevos A La Mexicana

Salmon Maya

I couldn’t leave without trying some of the sweet treats they offered on the menu, so I went for the Pan Dulce and the Mexican Style Donuts.

Pan Dulce – Mexican French Toast, Chipotle Cajeta, Nutella, Bananas, Whipped Cream.
If you have a sweet tooth, this will taste like heaven on earth.

Mexican Style Donuts – I ate the whole plate by myself. None for the hubs. 🙂

Needless to say, we didn’t eat anything else until dinner, and were fueled for the longest day walking to explore The City. The two hours we spent at Maya’s genuinely made for the best brunch experience I’ve ever had. If they were to ever open a restaurant in Montreal, I’d be the first one in line every weekend.

The restaurant also offers an A La Carte brunch menu, and is also open for dinner and happy hour.

If you live in NYC or plan on visiting soon, you must try Maya’s bottomless brunch.
