Best Paella in Barcelona

Of course while in Catalonia, you will want to try an authentic paella and will jump on the first opportunity to have a taste of the delicious traditional dish. That first opportunity will most likely present itself in one of the many restaurants along La Rambla and you will most definitely be disappointed. The restaurants on La Rambla are low quality, high priced tourist catchers and I strongly recommend that you stay away from them.

Instead, opt for one of the best paellas in Barcelona, at the restaurant Cheriff. Tucked on the corner of Ginebra street, the minimalist facade of the restaurant will probably have you think twice before setting foot inside, where the subdued lights in the dining room create a cozy yet strange ambiance, that makes you want to whisper by fear of waking someone up or disturbing someone; even though my friends and I were the only clients in the restaurant: Spanish people usually dine between 9pm and 11pm and we arrived at 5pm. The restaurant was closed and we waited in front of the door like crazy people until they opened. I was accompanied by three friends.
We ordered one pitcher of sangria and 4 paellas that came in one big tray, with empty plates on the side. The food was exquisite, although a bit pricey. We paid 90€ in total but it was worth every single bite.

A nice twist of the paella is the “fideuà”, where the rice is replaced by vermicelli. It tastes heavenly too!
