I’ve already professed my endless love for the Charlevoix region time and time again on the blog and I will gladly repeat myself today, as I fondly recall my dreamy stay at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu last March.
Any season is a good time to visit Charlevoix. The atmosphere is just incredibly relaxing, the landscape is to die for and the infinite list of activities to partake in will have couples, families and friends, whether young or older have an unforgettable vacation.
Usually when I escape to the region, I spend a couple days in a luxury cottage; but last March, I decided to switch things up and stay at the mesmerizing Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. Located at Malbaie, at a short two-hour drive from Quebec City, the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu faces the majestic St. Lawrence River, at just a couple hours drive from Quebec City. The place will literally have your jaw drop to the floor from the minute you step inside to the historic building. It looks like a museum.
I had already visited the hotel briefly prior to staying there and was instantly charmed by the place that feels like you’ve been plunged in a history book from the 1920’s. As you pass the front desk, a long corridor with subdued lights leads to an enormous wood fire place that smells divine and around which you can sit on the comfortable sofa chairs. There are two bars on the lobby, one facing the breathtaking River (needless to say having happy hour there felt like a dream) and one, a little more intimate, closer to the lobby.
Our room at the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu had a jacuzzi with a view on the St. Lawrence River, where we spent much of our time, when we weren’t busy diving in the heated interior and exterior pools, or exercising at the well-equipped gym. The hotel has a delicious restaurant where we had excellent dinner and took great pleasure in discovering the creations of the chef using local products. Even the drinks were made with products from the region which I thought was amazing. Breakfast was delicious. To this day I remember eating all the mouth-watering sweet options such as muffins, croissants, crêpes with chocolate on top (I probably ate too much of these)! I eat healthy 90% of the time, but sugar is my weakness and on occasions like these, I will happily overdose on sugar, ha! My husband, who’s more of savory person loved breakfast too and he particularly liked the sausages which he said didn’t contain too much fat and were succulent.
We loved sitting around the exterior fire at night, though it was absolutely freezing. There was a small heated cabin by the fire, with bags of marshmallows for guests to roast on the fire.
