5 Reasons You Should Start Journaling

Who needs therapy when you can journal everyday? My adult journaling life started with a gratitude journal that has changed my perspective on life, people, situations and events that occurred. Then I found about the vision board, that could help you attract whatever you try to achieve in life. Later on, I started a book of intention, on which, to this day, I write my life goals every morning. The book of intention is very effective but it lacks the positive benefits of the gratitude journal. So I created my own version of the perfect journal, that I call the Happiness & Productivity planner. I have actually created a digital version of it, that you can receive instantly in your inbox by signing up here, so you too, can stay on top of your game.

If you’ve never considered journaling, here are 6 reasons why I believe you should get into it:

  1. To stay organized and increase productivity. Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the list of tasks you had to accomplish everyday? Have you ever wished there were more hours in a day or that you could find a way to do it all? Well, if the answer to those questions is “yes”, than journaling may save your life. I find that writing every single thing I want or have to accomplish daily helps me work both harder and smarter and cuts the time-consuming periods where you feel so overwhelmed that you end up sitting in a corner of your office, signing in despair without getting any work done.
  2. To write down your goals, set up a plan to achieve them and stay laser-like focused.
It’s one thing to write your daily tasks, but it’s an even more powerful tool to pen your life goals… every day. Too many of us wander through lifelike robots, without wondering what they want to do with their lives, without figuring what exactly does happiness mean to them. Writing down your life goals every single day helps you stay focused, not allow life to get in the way, and not lose sight of your “why”. Have you ever heard people say “I’ve lost my why” as an explanation of their loss of motivation to pursue their dream or to do something? For example on new year’s eve you promised yourself that you would start exercising regularly but a month in you stopped going to the gym because life got in the way. By writing your goals every day, you remind yourself of your priorities, of what’s important to you and you don’t fall off the wagon.
  3. To remind yourself of all the great things you are thankful for in your life.
This is such a powerful tool. Too many of us focus on the negative in life. Negative events, people, situations, comments, and the list could go on. Writing down every morning and every night three or five things you are thankful for will reprogram your brain to think more positively, to focus on the positive things in your life and ignore the negative.
  4. To Identify the personal barriers that have prevented you from already being where you would like to be in life.
While writing down what we want to accomplish is a great way for us to stay focused and work toward reaching our goals, we must identify what has prevented us from being or obtaining what we covet, to make sure we work at releasing these mental barriers so that they do not block us in the future.
  5. To change your story; the way you talk to yourself.
We are not aware of how detrimental our self-talk is to us most of the time. We can be so hard on ourselves, judging ourselves, condemning ourselves, crucifying ourselves for no valid reason. Affirmations help change the way we perceive ourselves, they help alter our story about ourselves and set in motion our will to act according to our new belief system. For example if you think you are not x, y, z enough, you can just start writing “I am … ” after a while, you will catch yourself actually believing it.
