Weighing In On My Experience Training With A Trainer

As I explained a couple months ago on this post, I decided to pursue my fitness journey with the help of a professional trainer in September 2018. I took a twelve session plan at a gym, during which I’d exercise once a week with a trainer for three months. Multiple reasons motivated my decision to take a trainer. It all started as I was doing my cardio from home one day, all while looking at fitness videos on Instagram. I stumbled upon a transformation picture from a girl who went from skinny with no butt to super fit with a round, perky, strong bubble booty. In her caption she explained something that stuck with me in the following months: she claimed that if you have been training your butt for over six months and have not seen prominent change, it means something is wrong with your workouts: you’re either not doing the right exercises or you’re not performing movements correctly, or your diet needs to be changed. I’d been training for a good two years and my derrière was still not growing. There was a problem, indeed. I was exercising from home, using Fit Girls programs with the precise goal in mind of losing weight, get a flat and toned stomach with apparent abs and a big, round, firm booty. While I did loose weight and somewhat shaped my abs, I was not getting the results I wanted in the glutes, which was the area I was desperate to tone and build. I felt like I’d reached my limit of growth working out from home, and I felt like the programs from the fitness girls I was following didn’t help me gain muscle in the area I wanted to target. The only way for me to evolve would be to train at a gym and be guided, at least at the beginning, to learn how to use the equipment correctly, how to perform the movements the right way, hence the decision to take a trainer.

I took the search of a gym very seriously as this was a project that was dear to my heart and I didn’t want to have just anybody train me. After visiting three of the most popular gyms around the area where I live, I finally found the place where I decided to take a membership. It’s crazy how many decisions in life are made out of pure gut feeling, without even knowing what the turnout is going to be. The choice to train at that gym was entirely made from me being welcomed with a huge smile and a joke. The girl that explained to me all the plans offered by the gym for personal training also revealed to me which plan she had taken herself, how was her journey and which trainer she was exercising with. She kept raving about her trainer, so when she asked who did I want to train with, I responded: “the same as you!”. And there my fitness journey began at the gym.

My trainer was amazing and I learned a lot from him, especially nutrition wise. Six weeks into training with him, he tells me he’s moving to Switzerland for good. “Oh God, who am I gonna end up being trained with?!“, I thought. It took a month for the gym to find new trainers and I was assigned with a new one, who was also great but had a completely different technique, but still very interesting. We would use less machines and more of the Cross Fit equipment at the gym. He taught me valuable things about the technique behind building a workout program and how to build a balanced body.

The crazy thing is that as I applied the knowledge he passed on to me and modified my workouts, my weekly results grew insanely fast! I am not going to lie and say it’s easy. I do have to push hard to reach my goals and I don’t always feel like it, but it’s worth it and I’m seeing quick results.

I look forward to hearing all that I have learned with you and share exactly how I train with you in my Fitness programs.
