Quebec City Best Hotels – An Exceptional Stay At The Saint-Antoine

What better way to kick off the new year, than by spending a couple days in a luxurious hotel in the heart of Old Town Quebec City. In addition to being a reputable four-star boutique hotel (perhaps the best rated hotel in town), Auberge Saint-Antoine also happens to be a museum hotel. Indeed, the Auberge was built on one of the town’s most important historical and archeological sites, on the Hunt islet which faces the majestic Saint Lawrence River. Throughout History, the Hunt islet served as a wharf, a cannon battery and was later used by the British merchants at a time where Quebec City was one of North America’s major and busiest ports.

When the hotel was being built, the last archeological dig was undertaken and numerous artefacts were found, hundreds of which are now exposed in the hotel’s guest rooms and common areas.

I have been blown away by our stay at the Saint-Antoine and I genuinely think it is one of the best hotels in town. And if you don’t trust me, just take look at its ratings on sites like Trip Advisor or on Google. Our room was absolutely dreamy. It had a luxurious, cozy, warm and romantic feel to it. It was also very luminous (which is a must for me) and offered a magnificent view on the Saint Lawrence River.

The many common areas of the hotel offer a different ambiance that is so pleasant. They are cozy, elegant and decorated with taste. The bar section is incredibly stylish, with golden furniture, accent chairs, marble tables.

We had dinner at Chez Muffy, one of Quebec City’s absolute best restaurants, which also happens to be the hotel’s restaurant. Chez Muffy offers a unique family style farm-to-fork experience. The restaurant is set in a historic maritime warehouse dating back from 1822 which is quite impressive and will assuredly have you gasp in wonder. The stone wall, wooden beams, central fireplace, subdued lights and old school Soul music playing smoothly in the background make for a welcoming, cozy and relaxing atmosphere. You could have caught me softly humming to Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On” all while sipping on a delicious cocktail.

And speaking of cocktails, let’s get straight to the food! We kicked off our night with drinks. I had the Aphrodite, which is made with Vodka Absolute Mandarine, Soho, Grapefruit, Lime and Ginger. And if you’re into sour cocktails like me, you’re going to LOVE this one. My husband went with the Clockwork Orange cocktail, made with Bourbon and he really loved it.

The team likes to qualify the food served at the restaurant as “bistronomy“, which is a combination of “bistro” and “gastronomy”. The menu offers a twist on Canadian and French cuisine using seasonal ingredients from the hotel’s farm on l’île d’Orléans.

Breakfast at Chez Muffy was an extraordinary experience. You have the option to choose between a meal from the menu, which comes with coffee and juice (the duck eggs Benedict were incredible), or an all you can eat buffet that will satisfy all eaters, from the healthy ones, to those with a sweet tooth and everything in between. Pancakes, French toasts, muffins, cakes, pastries, a fruit salad and fruits, homemade smoothies, cereals, sausages, bacon, salmon, cheese, eggs, ham, turkey slices, prosciutto, freshly pressed orange and grapefruit juice, delicious coffee and so much more.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I couldn’t have dreamed of a better way to start the day than with the delicious food I ate at Chez Muffy. Needless to say I ate abundantly and most of my plate was filled with sweet treats. Yum! 🙂

There are many other amenities that I wish I’d had time to explore such as the incredible gym (which is the most beautiful and most well-equipped hotel gym I have ever seen) and the Spa.

Last but not least, I’d like to say that service is impeccable at the hotel: everyone from the valet, to the room service, to the front desk agents and the waiters at the restaurant, was extremely professional, kind, and thoughtful.

If you plan on visiting Quebec City this Winter, I highly recommend you booked a room at Auberge Saint-Antoine. They offer up to 25% off on room booking this season. Learn more on their website.
