Falling in love with L’Anse-Saint-Jean

I had been hearing about L’Anse-St-Jean for years since I arrived in Quebec but never got around to visiting this beautiful place until last Fall and boy did I fall in love. The time of our first trip coincided with the season’s foliage and the abundant nature was covered in the most mesmerizing tones of yellow and orange. We had planned on hiking the Montagne Blanche, which is a popular five-hour long hiking trail, but it was rainy and we were only there for two days, so we decided to explore the area instead.

We had rented a superb cottage with a view on the Saguenay Fjord. I cannot explain to you how good waking up and enjoying coffee to that view felt. The most jaw-dropping place was the Quai de Petit-Saguenay, located at a 15-minute drive from L’Anse-Saint-Jean. I loved being able to go to the Boulangerie at a five-minute walk from the cottage and get croissants for breakfast.

One of the most striking things from the landscape are the bread oven made in clay that you can see in people’s gardens.

We returned to L’Anse-Saint-Jean in November so I combined photos from both trips. Enjoy!

If you plan on visiting Saguenay L’Anse-St-Jean, here are my recommendations:

  • Accommodations: Chalets Sur Le Fjord for beautiful cottages with fireplaces and a view on the fjord. The rates are super cheap.
  • Breakfast: Nuances de Grains, located at a 5-minute walk from the cottages, for delicious croissants, pastries, bread or sandwiches
  • Dinner: unfortunately we did not go to the restaurant, but I was highly recommended to try Le Bistro De L’Anse
  • Hike: La Montagne Blanche
  • Views: Quai de Petit Saguenay and Fjord-du-Saguenay National Park

Take a look at the photo diary below.
